To meet the demands of laser communication, quantum precision measurement, cold atom technology, and other fields for narrow linewidth and low-noise light sources, an external cavity diode laser (ECDL) operating in the wavelength range around 780 nm was set up with a Fabry–Pérot etalon (F–P) and an interference filter (IF) in the experiment. The interference filter type ECDL (IF–ECDL) with butterfly-style packaging configuration has continuous wavelength tuning within a specified range through precise temperature and current control and has excellent single-mode characteristics. Experimental results indicate that the output power of the IF–ECDL is 14 mW, with a side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of 54 dB, a temperature-controlled mode-hop-free tuning range of 527 GHz (1.068 nm), and an output linewidth of 570 Hz. Compared to traditional lasers operating at 780 nm, the IF–ECDL exhibits narrower linewidth, lower noise, and higher spectral purity, and its dimensions are merely 25 × 15 × 8.5 mm3 weighing only 19.8 g, showcasing remarkable miniaturization and lightweight advantages over similar products in current research fields....
In this paper, the design of a driving mechanism for a heavy-duty collaborative robot (cobot) capable of lifting payloads up to 20 kg is presented. This study focuses on an articulated robot utilizing a water-based Electro-Hydraulic Actuator (EHA). The Denavit–Hartenberg (D–H) representation was employed to relate the rotational angles and the end-effector’s location, facilitating the design of the actuators. The maximum required torques for joints 2 and 3, responsible for lifting for 12 s, were calculated under quasi-static and dynamic loading conditions. The results showed that the maximum required torques were 126.67 Nm and 58.86 Nm for joint 2 and 3, respectively. The maximum torque for joint 2 occurs when the pitch links are fully extended, whereas the maximum torque for joint 3 occurs when the third link is parallel to the ground. The torques, due to the inertia and Coriolis dynamic terms, were also calculated and found to be lower than those required for the gravitational term. Various maneuvering scenarios, along with Ansys Motion simulation, were analyzed for the verification of the results. Based on the calculated maximum torques, the linear actuators of the EHA were designed. The heavy-duty cobot can be built with the developed actuator proposed in this paper. The total weight of the entire frame was measured to be 14.59 kg, resulting in a high Payload/Weight (P/W) ratio of 1.37. In the field of fiber-optic sensing, effectively reducing the noise of sensing spectra and achieving a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has consistently been a focal point of research. This study proposes a deep-learning-based denoising method for fiber-optic sensors, which involves pre-processing the sensor spectrum into a 2D image and training with a cycle-consistent generative adversarial network (Cycle-GAN) model. The pre-trained algorithm demonstrates the ability to effectively denoise various spectrum types and noise profiles. This study evaluates the denoising performance of simulated spectra obtained from four different types of fiber-optic sensors: fiber Fabry–Perot interferometer (FPI), regular fiber Bragg grating (FBG), chirped FBG, and FBG pair. Compared to traditional denoising algorithms such as wavelet transform (WT) and empirical mode decomposition (EMD), the proposed method achieves an SNR improvement of up to 13.71 dB, an RMSE that is up to three times smaller, and a minimum correlation coefficient (R2) of no less than 99.70% with the original high-SNR signals. Additionally, the proposed algorithm was tested for multimode noise reduction, demonstrating an excellent linearity in temperature response with a R2 of 99.95% for its linear fitting and 99.74% for the temperature response obtained from single-mode fiber sensors. This study developed a realization of sensorless control for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). Both position and speed were estimated using a high-frequency (HF) injection scheme. Accurate estimation is essential to ensure the proper functioning of sensorless motor control. To improve the estimation accuracy of the rotor position and reduce the motor speed ripple found in conventional methods, a new extraction strategy for estimating the rotor position and motor speed is proposed. First, signal modulation compensation was applied to expand the information of the error function in order to provide more accurate data to the tracking loop system for rotor position extraction. Second, to minimize the motor speed ripple caused by the HF injection, motor speed estimation was performed after obtaining the rotor position information using a differential equation with a low-pass filter (LPF) to avoid the direct effect of the injected signal. Verified experimentally, the results showed that the rotor position error did not exceed 10 el.deg, so these methods effectively reduce the rotor position estimation error by about 30%, along with the motor speed ripple. Therefore, better performance in sensorless PMSM control can be achieved in motor control applications....
To realize highly sensitive SAW devices, novel Al–Cu thin films were developed using a combinatorial sputtering system. The Al–Cu sample library exhibited a wide range of chemical compositions and electrical resistivities, providing valuable insights for selecting optimal materials for SAWdevices. Considering the significant influence of electrode resistivity and density on acoustic wave propagation, an Al–Cu film with 65 at% Al was selected as the IDT electrode material. The selected Al–Cu film demonstrated a resistivity of 6.0 × 10−5 Ω-cm and a density of 4.4 g/cm3, making it suitable for SAW-based microfluidic actuator applications. XRD analysis revealed that the Al–Cu film consisted of a physical mixture of Al and Cu without the formation of Al–Cu alloy phases. The film exhibited a fine-grained microstructure with an average crystallite size of 7.5 nm and surface roughness of approximately 6 nm. The SAWdevice fabricated with Al–Cu IDT electrodes exhibited excellent acoustic performance, resonating at 143 MHz without frequency shift and achieving an insertion loss of −13.68 dB and a FWHM of 0.41 dB. In contrast, the Au electrode-based SAW device showed significantly degraded acoustic characteristics. Moreover, the SAW-based microfluidic module equipped with optimized Al–Cu IDT electrodes successfully separated 5 μm polystyrene (PS) particles even at high flow rates, outperforming devices with Au IDT electrodes. This enhanced performance can be attributed to the improved resonance characteristics of the SAWdevice, which resulted in a stronger acoustic radiation force exerted on the PS particles....
